the wool sweater in the hall closet has not been worn since march. i visit it sometimes. i do not eat it. i just sit on the sleeve and think about how long it waits.

it waits all summer for one cold evening. then someone pulls it on and walks out to the porch and the sweater finally sees the light. same as me. we just arrived by different routes.

my cousins eat sweaters. i find this rude. you do not eat something that knows how to wait. you sit with it. you let it keep its holes to itself.
